A Little Bit About Me

I'm Mackenzie, a web developer, designer, and marketer with a habit of wandering into whatever part of a project interests me most. I'm curious by nature and like figuring things out, learning new skills, and making things that are useful, thoughtful, and a little bit different.

How I Got Here

My career started in mental health, where I spent seven years learning a lot about people, communication, and staying calm when things are chaotic.

During that time, I started a small metalsmithing business and decided to build the website myself. I ended up enjoying the process way more than I expected, and eventually found my way into web development and a completely different career.

Since then, one thing has tended to lead to another. Development led to design, then marketing, with plenty of creative projects mixed in along the way.

Away from the screen

Outside of work, I’m usually making something or finding a new way to challenge myself. I play music, take photos, make jewelry, build games, and regularly disappear into new hobbies. I like deliberately pushing myself into discomfort and seeing what I learn from it. Sometimes that means trying something completely new, going somewhere I’ve never been, or doing objectively questionable things like swimming in Lake Superior while there’s still ice in it.
